Abstract

Karin Peterson from the University of Turku explores some literary and linguistic codes in the text of «Mass» by Michael Agricola (Messu eli Herran Echtolinen), the first work published in Finnish. Special attention is paid to the phenomenon of foreign language inclusions, as well as to the role of translated fragments in the Agricola’s text: K. Peterson examines some functions of linguistic codes in them, drawing on specific examples and giving the detailed commentary that demonstrates relationships between the peculiarities of language and the genre of the original text; the cultural and historical context of the «Mass» remains the focus of the author’s attention as well.
