The monograph by E.V. Klyueva is a comprehensive
study of the entire corpus of works by Charles of Orleans, the greatest
French poet of the late Middle Ages, in the broad historical and literary
context. It gives a detailed review of time-honoured and recent studies
of his poetry, analyzes its recurrent themes and persistent images. The
book also discusses the essence of allegory, primarily artistic and literary, and some innovations introduced by Charles of Orleans into the
poetics of allegory.
