The paper deals with the main means of depicting dictator’s figure on the example of some European political regimes during the World War II and the post-war period in the works of the famous French poet, screenwriter and playwright Jacques Prévert (1900–1977). We put under analysis the collective image of a dictator based on the portrayal of some individual political figures, such as Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, Francisco Franco, Philippe Pétain, Charles de Gaulle. The main research method is linguostylistic and linguocultural analysis of the text. Based on the results of the study, conclusions are drawn about the main linguistic means of representing dictators and about the connotations that these means are endowed with in Prévert’s texts.
