Abstract

The first volume of selected works by A.E. Makhov includes his papers in Russian studies, mainly on A.S. Pushkin’s oevres and the literature of his time, discussed against the broad background of European literary history. A special place in the book is occupied by the first published text of Makhov’s PhD thesis, dedicated to N.I. Nadezhdin and his magazine Telescope, which is considered both in connection with the literary position of the publisher and in the context of the literary struggle of the Pushkin era.
