Abstract

This article examines the referential correlation of the fictional world of Saltykov (Shchedrin) with non-linguistic reality, focuses on the structure of his aesthetic consciousness. The key concept of Saltykov (Shchedrin), formulated in his literary and critical works, is the inextricable connection of works with life, which forms the semantic reality of the plot. The writer emphasizes the importance of synthetic and analytical abilities that allow the artist to comprehend the factual side of life and create a different reality of the object. Saltykov (Shchedrin) in his reviews and analyses uses the terms fabula and syuzhet as two interrelated elements: fabula represents the external form, and syuzhet is the internal content of the work. Our article examines the methods of organizing cognitive scenes and scenarios, which serve as the basis for the formation of the plot structure of literary texts by Saltykov (Shchedrin). It also analyzes how the idea underlying the writer’s works is born from the author’s perception of reality and transformed into mental images. In conclusion, the idea is formulated that fixation of sensations and the desire to understand life led to the creation of new model forms and plot schemes, which makes the work of Saltykov (Shchedrin) unique in the context of Russian literature.
