Abstract

The review presents the reports of the round-table session «Gothic plots and storylines in European literature of the past and present» which took place on October 17, 2023 as а part of the International Scientific Conference «Fabula: word and notion in the history of literature and culture» in memory of A.E. Makhov (INION RAN, October 17–18, 2023). The reports covered both the genesis of traditional British Gothic and national variants of the Gothic narrative, which are of particular interest to the current needs of modern humanitarian science. The breadth of approaches to the study of Gothic plots and topoi in various literary traditions demonstrates the significance and great potential for further study and development of this topic. The conference was held in a face-to-face format with the possibility of online participation; full conference materials can be found on the INION RAN YouTube channel.
