Abstract

The paper deals with the linguistic specificity of the image of the moon in the works of the famous French poet, playwright and screenwriter Jacques Prévert (1900–1977). We reveal such semantic and stylistic features as the personification of the moon, the image of the unity of the moon and the sun, as well as the moon as a metaphor of happiness and the moon as a metaphor of death. We put under analysis poetic and prose works from the collections Choses et autres (1972), Grand Bal du Printemps (1951), Histoires et d'autres histoires (1946), La pluie et le beau temps (1955) and Soleil de nuit (1980). The main method of research is linguostylistic and linguocultural analysis of the text. Based on the results of the study, a conclusion is drawn about the specific connotations that the representation of the moon in Prévert’s works is endowed with, as well as about the linguistic means used by the author to convey them.
