The article discusses the reasons for the “doubtful” status of the concept of “creative individuality” in Russian literary criticism. The history of this concept in foreign and domestic science is traced. Its significance in the development of romantic hermeneutics, the philosophy of culture, the history of literature and the methodology of philological knowledge is indicated. Particular attention is paid to the problem of terminological uncertainty and the need to clarify ideas about the concept of “creative individuality”, considering its systemic nature.
