The article outlines some features of the concept of man in L.-F. Céline’s first novel Journey to the End of the Night. This concept is revealed through the prism of medical view of the main character, which distinguishes the two components of human existence – body and word. Two cases from medical practice of the main character are considered. Some features of characters’ behavior in a critical situation are revealed as well as their attitude to the world of corporality and the role of a doctor as a personal guide to this world. Ability of a person to realize his / her own corporality is also investigated in Céline’s text.
