The article presents Jörg Robert’s view on the image and aesthetics of depth in Schiller’s ballad The Diver (Der Taucher), in particular, in comparison with Athanasius Kircher’s work The Underworld (Mundus subterraneus). It also shows, how Robert sees the place of the ballad genre in Schiller’s work, its important features, as well as some origins of the main characters from the ballad The Diver and the basis of their interpretation by Schiller.
