International scholarly conference “The creative heritage of J.R.R. Tolkien in the historical and literary context”.

Abstract

The article is a report about the thematic online conference that took place on 13–16 January 2022 at the Institute of World Literature of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The event was timed to the 130th anniversary of J.R.R. Tolkien and became the first academic event of this scale in Russia devoted to his writings. More than forty reports were presented altogether, analysing various aspects of Tolkien’s creative heritage, including probable sources of certain images and storylines as well as the place and the role of Tolkien’s texts in the contemporary culture.
